Our History
New Ark of the Covenant Church is humbly making a presence in the city of San Diego with a vision for the 21st century. The Lord is building a powerful and effective ministry through hard work and prayer. The results have been astounding. Over 50 souls have gone down in Jesus Name and with a membership of 100, our congregation continues to grow. “New Ark” is a ministry that is reaching the various cultural backgrounds that live in the city of San Diego. Our vision has extended beyond our own doors as our church has donated to overseas ministries in Africa and India.
This is our historic one year pilgrimage.
The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: (Ps. 37:23)
Pastor Wright held bible studies in the family’s home in Chula Vista on Tuesday nights at 7:00 PM and choir rehearsals on Saturday mornings. Youth Pastor David Brown displayed a seemingly limitless ability to promote the gospel of Jesus Christ while actively serving in the U.S. Navy. He witnessed to personnel stationed on the USS Nimitz, and helped his pastor wherever needed. It was during this period that many of our members who were serving our country joined the church; Wendy Ardoin, Angela Navarrette, Wynell Wilson, Tiffany Barnes, Taj Fuller, Marquise Fowler, Regina Turner and her husband, Mark Harper and his wife Marion Harper, Dawnnikqua Raggins, Brandon Wildman, Marcus Fields, Michael Oviedo and William Simmons.
Other prominent names from this time were Charles Piggee, Whitney Coleman, and La Cresha Palmer. “New Ark” had a following of approximately 25 souls.
The congregation continued to meet in Chula Vista until November 19, 2006. The Lord blessed more than 135 souls to attend “New Arks” first church service at the Mission Valley Resort Hotel in San Diego, California. After preaching a message on New Beginnings, Pastor Wright made an altar call; as the congregation began to leave, seven souls wanted to be baptized. Numerous attempts to locate a site were meant to bring about defeat. But the Lord made a way. Favor was shown by the hotel; pool or Jacuzzi. Not business as usual, six souls went down in the Jacuzzi in Jesus Name! And the seventh returned two days later and was baptized before bible class.
Dedication and Consecration Service
On February 17, 2007, a dedication service was held at the Mission Valley Resort. Many of Pastor Wright’s family and friends and peers in the ministry came from all over to celebrate. Pastor Roland Pierce of Cornerstone Christian Church in Phoenix, Arizona lead the church in a fiery prayer and Pastor Kenneth Green of Heritage Faith Ministries in Tucson, Arizona followed with the scripture reading.
The Master of Ceremonies was Pastor Wright’s father in the gospel Bishop Arthur Pierce of Greater Emmanuel Grace Apostolic Church in Tucson, Arizona and Pastor Danny Graham’s choir, Monument of Love, dressed in white, filled one side of the church to capacity. The congregation gave them a standing ovation as they sang praises unto the Lord.
Pastor Wright introduced the speaker, his friend and mentor District Elder Dwayne Shepherd who made an indelible mark upon the congregation. Shortly after an inspiring message, Bishop Arthur L. Pierce proceeded to consecrate Pastor Wright as the pastor of the New Ark of the Covenant Church and ended the charge of anointing with the pouring of oil over the crown of his head.
The spirit of God spoke to Pastor Wright and told him that “New Ark” will grow both numerically and spiritually. Pastor Wright prayed and fasted in 2008 that the Lord would bless New Ark with its own building. On the last day of the year, God blessed New Ark with a church home that sits on two and a half acres of land at 5555 University Ave. in San Diego, CA 92105 and an Administration building on the other side of the parking lot at 5577 University Ave. San Diego, CA 92105. New Ark had its opening service on January 18th, 2009 and has since been an active part of the community.
We express our appreciation for the work that God is doing…of the great expansion that God is bringing to pass.
For the vision is yet for an appointed time, …though it tarry, wait for it;
